My Summer Swap Package Arrived!

I recently participated in Miss Sweet Tea's at the Sweet Tea Diaries Summer Swap. It was such a fun experience! Thanks so much for hosting this Angela! Before I get to the goods, can I just say that I had an awfully crummy day yesterday?? I got some disheartening news about a co-worker, and it is going to make the next several weeks strange and difficult. But when I came home to my summer swap package, all that faded away!

I got the best partner in Amy at The Un-wife Housewife Life! We have tons in common, and I'm sure if we lived closer, we would be great IRL friends. For now, we will have to settle for bloggy friends, BUT Tony did ask me if we needed to take a trip to FL when I went on and on about how much I enjoyed this process with Amy!

I opened up my package to find this awesome tote bag on the top!

Inside the tote bag were all my goodies. Everything was wrapped super cute, and she even played into my blog theme with this "A Girl's gotta SHINE" label!

Some other items of note were gifts for Riley & Gidget and Tony! She is so thoughtful!

• and probably my favorite of all - a great chip & dip bowl for the lake with Amy's personal guacamole recipe! Tony is really intrigued to try this, so I will definitely be whipping it up for the 4th!

Here's a close up of some of my other goodies. The lip gloss was already stashed in my purse, and Tony and I were drooling over the guacamole!

Gidget waited for her treats like a good little girl. Riley was impossible to capture as he was bouncing all over the room. I made a video of them, but I didn't have time to load it, so I think it might make a good Mutt Monday post!

I love watching Inside the Actor's Studio with James Lipton! Do you? I like hearing the behind the scenes stories, seeing a side of a celeb that makes them more relatable, and learning more about the people who captivate my attention with great screen works.

1. What is your favorite word? Couture. It's such a pretty word.

2. What is your least favorite word? Cee U Next Tuesday. That word just rubs me all kinds of wrong.

3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally? Wit, chivalry and a great butt.

4. What turns you off creatively, spiritually or emotionally? Infidelity, disloyalty and irresponsibility.

5. What sound do you love? A thunderstorm.

6. What sound do you hate? Nails on a chalkboard...and the alarm clock.

Wordful Wednesday: Oh Deer!

Wordful Wednesday is hosted by Seven Clown Circus.

This past weekend, we took a break from Fort Smith to head to Possum Kingdom Lake with friends. We started to see quite a few deer as the sun went down, and Mark mentioned that they would come closer if I threw some corn out. So, I did, and the next several pictures show you what happened next.

OMG, it's eating out of my hand!! (I couldn't fix the red eyes on this one. Please resist the urge to draw horns on me.)

Tony got in on the action for a few minutes. I think he was resisting the urge to wrestle the deer to the ground.

They ate out of my hand like this for a long time. Their little noses are so soft. I loved it!

I had just told this one that he needed to lay off and let someone else have a turn. He wasn't amused.

At this point, there were 15 or so in my little area. There were several more approaching on the other side of the fence.

The next day, these ladies were feeding on a brush pile in front of the house.

And, look what was hiding in between our fence and the neighbors...


A baby deer!! This little thing was almost as cute as a puppy. Sorry baby deer, nothing beats puppies in my book. It let me get pretty close before it hightailed it for its mama.

I found it with its mama a little later. Reunited and it feels so good...

Want to annoy me today?

• Mention that the husband is at The Colonial, and I am sadly, NOT. I'll pretend I don't care (even though I really do) because it's not like Tiger plays that tournament anyway.
• ETA: Call just to tell me you got to meet Terrence Newman (you Cowboy fans will get it) at said Colonial and get your picture taken with him. Thanks a lot hubs. Rub some more salt in that wound.
• Play "Boom Boom Pow" by the Black Eyed Peas. This isn't just today, though. This one will work any ol' time. That monstrosity of a song makes me want to stab my brain with an icepick.
• Drive 15 mph in a 40 mph zone just because a motorcycle cop is present. Seriously, that cop has better things to do than watch you putter by like Hoke in Driving Miss Daisy - like pass out some lovely reckless driving tickets when I ram your ass.
• Turn the copier off since you get to leave the office at 3:45. Because, obviously the rest of us who will be here until 5:00 couldn't possibly need the copier the rest of the day. Obvs.

At least, after today's wardrobe malfunction it is. After a lunch appointment, I ran to the grocery store to pick up my staple quickie lunch - grapes, tuna and broccoli - to take back to the office. I was in and out in three minutes thanks to the wonder that is self checkout, and as soon as I walked out, the sun hit me just the right way, and all I could think about as I walked to the car was a cold, fruity cocktail on the patio until...Justin Timberlake! Where did you come from??

In a flash, pun intended, I felt a warm rush of air on my chest and realized I was exposed. Remember that dress from this morning that I loved so much? See the little link straps? Yeah, it's not so cute when those little plastic links figure out how to separate, causing your dress to fall down and flash your boob to two teenage hornboys in the parking lot.

Only I didn't have a fancy shmancy nipple guard to shield me. No, no, ladies, those boys caught my left gal in all her pale glory - which really isn't all that spectacular, anyway. The right one is really the show stealer.

Mildly mortified, I did what I could to cover myself and pull the dress together, and as I tried to duck into my car as fast as I could, I heard:

Boy #1: "Holy sh*t! That. just. happened."

Boy #2: "That was f'in awesome, man!"

{boyish snickers and unintelligible chatter ensued}

You're welcome, boys. I hope you enjoyed the free show. My husband dished out a lot of money on a ring to ensure that he would be the only male with that privilege.

Thank God the other link strap held, or my decision to go commando after the first bikini wax of the season today (what? don't judge. it feels better!) would have really given them a halftime show that would make the FCC flip out.

I need the Brooke Shields.

I have my father's eyebrows. They are thick, and they grow like weeds. On steroids. And, they are dark - darker than my natural blonde locks, and much darker than the bottle blonde my fabulous colorist gives me! Thanks Dad!

I learned long ago that I can not be trusted to take care of these beasts on my own. I get tweeze happy, and they turn out too thin...and lopsided. Sometimes, I look at old pictures, and I look like a cartoon character with one brow raised. Waxing for me does not mean a quickie at the nail salon, either! No, no - I need a professional!

Every four to five weeks, my sculptor comes from DFW to take care of these caterpillars above my eyes. The last time I saw her was February 6, and now I have been informed that she's pushing her visit back to April 3. That's two months! This is unheard of, people! Six weeks is usually my max, and then I want to do more than nix the strays at my desk in the morning.

I can not possibly wait another week. I need waxing. I need shaping. I need trimming and gelling and powdering. I need the Brooke Shields treatment - STAT!!!

As I sleepily made my way to the coffeemaker this morning, a flash of foil caught my eye. Yay, goodies...and breakfast!! So I peel back the foil to find that someone brought a delicious looking chocolate sheet cake with chocolate frosting. What - you didn't know that chocolate cake constitutes breakfast?? It does in my world!

I slice myself a respectable piece of cake - not too big, but not too small either. I was really good this weekend. I grab a fork and my coffee and settle in at my desk for a long morning of emails and phone calls after being out for 2 1/2 days. I cut into the cake, bite into the yummy, moist goodness, and...

raspberry?!?!? What?!? BLASPHEMY!! I tried to take another bite, but I didn't even want to swallow. I was so disappointed to taste the fruitiness. I decided to scrape the frosting off and just eat that. Blech! The vile raspberry abomination was in the frosting too!! The whole piece ended up in the trash. All that wonderful chocolate...ruined by raspberry! Talk about a crappy way to start a Monday!

A night at the movies

I got carded last night to get into an R-rated movie. Seriously?? The guy at the ticket stand asked for both Tony and my IDs when we asked for tickets to Watchmen. We both just looked at each other, dumbfounded. I said to Tony, "is he kidding?" as we pass the licenses to him. The guy fires back, "you both look really young" as he checks the dates out. As he passed my ID back to me, he says, "I thought you would have been 16." I muttered, "Uh...thanks?"

I frequently get told that I look young, but I didn't know what to say to being likened to someone almost ten years younger! Sometimes it gets really frustrating. I get carded all the time, but it's often more than people just doing their job. My license has been questioned as a fake more than once because I look older in my license pic (taken four years ago with short hair) than I do now. Hopefully, looking younger will be a blessing for me several years in the future!

On another note, I really do not understand the parents who take their young children to R rated movies. I'm not talking about the parents who are trying to get a night out with a baby who sleeps through the entire movie but parents who take children that are old enough to be aware of adult situations but too young to fully comprehend them.

We saw a man in the movie with two young boys - probably six and four - and we just knew that the movie was going to be way too adult for them. Watchmen had lots of nudity, an attempted rape, a graphic sex scene that lasts over a minute, a slew of f-bombs and other four-letter words, and pervasive violence/gore. One guy had his arms cut off with a circular saw, and another was whacked in the head multiple times with a butcher's knife! I had to turn away a few times, and even Tony cringed some. After the movie was over, we both turned to each other to say, "I can't believe that guy brought those kids!"

Now, I'm obviously not a parent, so I can't judge that man's decision to bring those kids. I just don't understand it. What makes someone think that a child that young can handle seeing those kind of things or that a child should see those things? I just don't know sometimes, but what I would like to know is how those little boys slept through last night - and the next few...

I got 42 days to go!

Ok, so CCR actually sings "miles" instead of "days," but who cares? It's 42 days until my birthday!! Now I'm usually not the birthday countdown person, but this year is super exciting! Why, you ask? Well a while back, I read a news report that Elton John had announced that his final show at Caeser's in Vegas was to be...April 22nd, which just happens to be my birthday!

I've been wanting to see him for as long as I can remember, and when we were in Vegas for our wedding, we just couldn't work it in even though some of our wedding party went. And, a final show on my birthday just sounded like a sign so I had to call Tony and ask if we could go. I don't ask for much, and he thought it sounded great, so he said YES! :)

As soon as tickets went on sale last month, I snagged them up! I'm still checking travel sites almost daily to find the best flight deals. Flying in for one night is not as cheap as I had hoped, but I just keep my fingers crossed that I'll find a fabulous deal. So, until then, I'll count down the days until I have the best birthday ever! I'm so excited!!

I feel so old - not because of my age, but because of the way I feel. I hurt all the time. It's been almost two years since my double knee surgery, and the pain is there more now than it ever has been. *sigh* Some days are ok, but it interferes with my life too much. There's pretty much not another surgery they can do unless I become handicapped, because of the severity of the surgery and the complications it creates. I just pray that technology advances and some new treatment or surgery will present itself.

Yesterday, I had a good meeting with my dr. about pain management, and she put me on an additional medication - a painkiller/anti-inflammatory med for arthritis sufferers. Arthritis! And that seems funny to me since I have told several people that I wish I had a cane for my bad days. Good grief, I feel like I'm falling apart! Hopefully, the new med will interact well with my current med and greatly reduce the amount of pain I'm in!

Ash Wednesday

Today starts the Lent season, and for such I've decided to give up pasta - a huge staple in my diet. I love all pastas, and I even love to snack on it raw. I know, I know - that's weird, right? My husband thinks I am a nut, but I still love it all the same. Last night, for Fat Tuesday, I filled up on baked cheese tortellini, and I'll have to survive on that memory until Holy Thursday. 40 days of no pasta - yikes!!
